Out of Date Political Humor

clock October 8, 2009 05:10 by author Admin

Yes, it's been almost a year since the historic American Presidential Election of 2008, but this is still awesome!

Who says life doesn't imitate art (or animation)?

And of course, who can forget The Simpsons taking on the (not so) epic 1996 fight to lead the free world?

Greatest Cartoon Ever? What do you think?

clock September 24, 2009 11:39 by author CliffB

1955 saw many things--Marty McFly met his teenaged parents, Adlai Stevenson prepared to get whupped again, and what is considered by many to be the greatest cartoon ever made debuted.

It was called One Froggy Evening, and was produced by Warner Brothers, directed by Chuck Jones and written by Michael Maltese.  Hailed as the Citizen Kane of animation by Steven Spielberg, and revered by animators the world over, the almost 7-minute cartoon short tells the story of a singing and dancing frog--later named Michigan J. Frog--who only performs when no one is around save for the greedy construction worker who finds him.  Silent except for MJF's singing voice, the short is considered the perfect animated example of comedic minimalistic/high-concept presentation.  It is hilarious, but is it the best animation ever?  What do you think?

Featured Creator: Julia Pott

Welcome back to our Creator Spotlight!

We're pleased to bring you the insights and ideas of incredible animator Julia Pott, whose animation My First Crush was a top-ranking contender and audience favorite in our Aniboom Awards 2008.

(Julia Pott herself!)

Aniboom:  When did you first become interested in animation?

Julia Pott:  I have wanted to be an animator as far back as I can remember..except when I was three and went through a short phase of wanting to be a balloon. Whenever anyone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I would always say a cartoonist, or that I wanted to work for Disney. I think at the time I don't really know what that involved but I always pursued art in all forms and when it came to specializing at university I went down the animation route. I was always told it was very important  to choose a career that made you want to get out of bed in the morning and what better way to start the day then animating dancing animals.
