Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles--The Most Amazing Team-Up Ever!

clock September 28, 2009 14:53 by author CliffB

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are the reason I watch cartoons, love animation, read comic books, and am the way I am.  As a kid, I had every Turtle toy known to man, as a teenager I collected all their comics--from the Archie, to the short-run Image, to all four volumes of Mirage Black and White--and as an adult, I have nothing but fond memories for the heroes on a half shell when I watch their new 4Kids cartoon and their quadrilogy of films.

Yes, the Turtles have been the seminal pop culture creation of my life.  And now, the most incredible cross-over mash-up I could ever hear about has happened: Turtles Forever.  Basically, the Turtles from the 1980s cartoon (mine) team up with the Turtles of today.  I'm sorry, but when the words "Technodrome", "Bebop", and "Krang" are as regular for you as "and", "the", and "Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin" are for everyone else, this is your Superbowl.

I'm getting my tickets now!

Behind the Scenes of the Aniboom-History Video with Producers Udi and Gidi

clock August 7, 2009 00:29 by author rominska

Greezer, an animation and design studio located in Tel Aviv, is run by two master animators, Gidi Rabi and Udi Morag, who have been collaborating with Aniboom for over a year now.  When I arrived at their studio to discuss their process in creating our History Channel Competition’s Call-For-Entries video, they suggested we instead talk about how they got to know with Aniboom.  Thinking, “Okay then,” we dove into the love affair between Greezer Creative Creators (as Udi and Gidi call themselves) and Aniboom, which began in April 2008.

Gidi had just returned from India and Aniboom's COO (Chief Operations Officer for those of us unfamiliar with start-up vocabulary) called and asked to meet about a potential commissioned assignment. “Aniboom needed a trailer,” reflects Udi. “[They’d] been working on a video for the MIP conference in Cannes, France, for over three weeks and weren’t happy with the result.” Added Gidi, “They asked us if we can make a new video in less than 24 hours.”

Faced with creating a final cut in less than a day, “We bought a new computer screen and lots of coffee cups later the video was ready.” The magic makers continued, “We finished working at 8:45 and on 9:00, and the CD was already distributed after being approved.”

I asked them what the most interesting aspects are in making competition videos or movie trailers for a company like Aniboom. They said the biggest challenge in footage creation is constantly keeping in mind that they mustn’t outshine the animation they are to be promoting.

Since both Gidi and Udi have worked in the Television industry, it took them some time to adapt to the changes in shifting mediums – especially changes relating to the different screen size and time.  “The audience is even more impatient than TV audience,” they say.  One therefore has to be more careful with the messages of each video – there's no room for more than four words in one frame; the pace faster, everything is accelerated.  You don’t have enough time to even say the word “Aniboom.”   Look at Aniboom's logo for example – it is now only the letter A – no longer the company's name in its entirety.  “One has to focus on the message and activate the users, especially when it comes to competitions,” the two say. “Unlike TV which encourages some kind of passivity [the lean forward/ lean backward story model], the Internet sends one focused message at a time.  Web-video projects function like business cards with no room for longer stories.  But the differences can also be seen on the level of structure, narrative conveyed visually or in some kind of impact we wish to make on the user.

The History Channel Competition video brought another challenge since there were three brands that had to share the spotlight—The History Channel, The People Speak Competition, and Aniboom,” Gidi and Udi continued.  “We had to ensure that everybody's happy and that each gets sufficient exposure, and we believe we were able to accomplish that goal.”

Check out Gidi and Udi’s work and join “The People Speak” Competition.  It’s your opportunity to animate history and show us your unique take on a famous speech.

Report from Comic Con 2009 Part Two!

clock July 26, 2009 10:55 by author Admin

Finishing up our Comic Con coverage, Larry has another exciting day at the world's biggest and best pop culture event.  So without further ado, he're's the latest and greatest!

Comic Con Day 2

Another amazing day at Con.

(Larry "catches" a Pikachu izrmvh4te7 )

Today's highlight was announcing Aniboom's Marvel Motion Comic Initiative to a packed panel at Con.  Nearly 1,000 fans showed up to get the get the details!  The project launch was made by Joe Quesada, Marvel’s Editor In Chief – who as you probably guessed is a HUGE animation fan. He can't wait to see what YOU GUYS do with Marvel's comic art and scripts.  The world is watching!  On the panel with Joe were two of the world's great comic book artists -- Neal Adams (whose work on Batman and Green Lantern were my all time faves as a kid) and John Cassaday (his X-Men with Joss Wedon really were Astonishing).  Other Marvel men on the panel included Publisher Dan Buckley and VP Interactive Ira Rubenstein.

(From left to right, Ira, Larry, Dan.)

Everyone of these professional fanboys said they are relying on the community of animators working on Aniboom’s Virtual Studio to step up and show the world what a Motion Comic can mean, and that the true meaning of a Motion Comic is up to an endless amount of interpretation.  And for the first time anywhere, Marvel showed portions of their upcoming Spider-Woman Motion Comic by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev -– an original story being released FIRST as a Motion Comic and then as a print book.  You can view the trailer here!

Report from Comic Con 2009

Straight from the floor of San Diego Comic Con, our main man Larry is having the time of his life.  The biggest pop culture convention in the world, Comic Con is the place to learn about comics, animation, movies, TV, sci-fi, and every other reason we wake up in the morning.

Sending us pictures and updates from the floor, Larry gives us an inside look at the fun and craziness of Day 1 at con!

(The crush of fans at Comic Con)

Aniboom's first day at Comic-Con 2009 was amazing!  It's simply the best weekend of the year for a fan boy like me.  Some folks say it's grown too large (somehow it gets bigger every year) and there is no way any one person can experience half of whats going on here in San Diego.  I was running around all day and somehow I didn't even make it to the show floor.  How is that possible?  Just busy with meetings, conference calls and reconnecting with old friends.  My day began with an early breakfast with programming development folks, some calls, half a dozen meetings with other TV networks, Hollywood agents and comic book publishers. Hollywood is definitely buzzing about Aniboom's new programming initiatives and today was a great opportunity to spread the word about Aniboom's Virtual Animation Studio.
