Here is our final section of Aniboom's Animations of the Year, the Editor's picks. It touches on a little bit of everything. You get aliens, the apocalypse, internet dating, an old woman, coffee, and green people making friends with red people. |
LEGACY
There's two ways of looking at this one. The glass half empty way; humanity destroyed itself, or the glass half full way; humanity pulls off the greatest practical joke on an alien ever. Either way the textures are highly detailed, the lighting makes the world feel cold and desolate, and the special effects look amazing.
L'AMIE DE ZOE
I already went over my love affair with this little gem in my Animation of the Day recap. And I still stand by everything I said. I love the unique look of the models I'm still completely fascinated with the cat, and I still have no idea why. Maybe because it has a bushy tail...I don't know...
THE DRAWER OF MEMORY
A touching short about a woman reliving her memories through a drawer in her belly. What makes this such a great animation is that it's such an inventive way to tell the story of someone looking back on their life. It has to walk a fine line between the surreal and reality. Just an excellent job in fully realizing this unique little world.
E.T.A.
It doesn't take much to win me over and this animation has it all. Outer space? Check. Ridley Scott homage? Check. That's pretty much all it takes to get me on board. In addition though there's the excellent ambient soundtrack, the highly detailed models, and a brilliantly animated zero gravity sequence.
CONNECTED
Here's what you get with this animation. Really expressive models, a simple set up to the story, and no ending. Here's why that's great...you can go to their website, download the models, and create your own ending. I love create my own ending! Your internet date is over buddy...time for you to go wrestle a bear...
